I remember when I first came across 'Cut-out fashion', clothes where patches of material are cut out, exposing small sections of naked flesh to the world. I have to say that I wasn't really a fan, probably because most of the stuff I saw in that style were extremely tight bodycons. Don't get me wrong, I love a good bodycon as much as the next girl, but it just felt a bit much having big chunks of a dress missing!

All these years later though, and I can now say that I've given the whole cut-out thing a try with this little skater number. I've always found skater dresses to be awesome: fitted in the right places with a flare from the waist down. In this case the fitted areas are the cut-out bits and just to throw a spanner in to the works, it's snake print!

If I saw this whilst out on the high street, being honest, I probably wouldn't buy it but that isn't to say I don't like it. I really do, it's just that I'd have been put off by the cut-out section beneath the bust. What with the dress being black, it's pretty easy to style as it'll go with almost anything, particularly bright colours. Judging by the photos, you can see I wasn't quite brave enough to wear either no bra, or one small enough to be 'invisible'!

I paired the dress up with a lovely, colourful floral-print shirt and this beautiful statement necklace that seemed to go perfectly with the ensemble. The dress itself is stunning, I love the fitting and the cut of it and even the material (despite never liking animal prints much) was surprisingly good, adding a bit of depth to the dress. For me, this would definitely be one for nights out or summer days.

*Black Snake Print Skater Dress - RARE London // Burgundy Heels - Primark // Oversized Floral Shirt - Primark //  Rainbow Tear Drop Statement Necklace - Ali Express

Remember how I was talking about Instagram Sellers not so long ago? Well, I've seen a whole lot of gorgeous statement jewellery sold on these Boutique Instagram accounts for extortionate amounts. The majority of these Boutiques purchase their items from Ali Express or in bulk from Ali Baba at very cheap rates, and then sell them on for a hefty profit. One seller trades in 'Dupe Bags' - bags that look like designer ones - at £55 a bag, when they are available for as little as £5 on Ali Baba. That's £50 profit. So if you find something you really like on Instagram, just have a quick browse over at Ali Express. You might save yourself a few quid. ;)

  1. I wasn't into cut outs either! I do like little peeks in the right places but anywhere near the bust seems to scare me lol. The dress is really pretty and has a good flattering shape :D

Totally agree with you on instagram sellers. Research first! Especially the people that do pre-orders for $25+ and they buy the item from China for $1 on Ebay.

  2. I have yet to jump on the cut out bandwagon myself but I do love the way it works on others, especially when it's done well - and you, my dear Lima, do it beautifully. I love the subtle snakeskin print of this dress and the cutout is perfectly placed!

  8. I agree! I used to be a bit fearful of cut-out, but now, I've grown to gradually love it! :-) With the right styling, it can look trendy as opposed to trashy. With that being said, I absolutely adore how you paired your cut-out dress with a colorful kimono! It's still fun but casual!

  13. I always adore your style, and the beautiful kimono with this dress is so perfect. I love how much the colours in it and your hair and the necklace all match. Also, your hair is looking so impressive! There's something a little mermaid in your outfit.
I've never really wanted to go for a cut out dress, but I don't think I have quite the right body for it. Though I don't mind going for things that straight up show off my cleavage, so you know I'm not complaining. ;)
