POC Invented Being Extra || Glitter Ombre Graphic Liner
Sunday, December 31, 2017Wow, so it's the last post of the year, and I know you'll either be midway through a Netflix marathon, half-drunk already, or maybe even a day into 2018 by the time you read this, but my god what a year it's been.
Not gonna lie though, it hasn't been all sunshine and roses, there's been some really rotten, negative parts, but amongst all that, there's been some massive highs, for those I am incredibly thankful and grateful. Some of those highlights include being nominated for three awards, just the fact that I was nominated by other people with no agenda, just because they like my stuff was amazing, but then I only went and won one of them! And then of course being featured in Blogosphere magazine right at the end of the year just topped it all of.
All of these highlights are great, but more importantly than all of that, I've never felt so freaking sure of myself and confident within my own skin. The older I've got, the more I've realised that other people's thoughts and opinions of me just don't matter. Not so long ago, I found negative opinions of me to be quite upsetting, but over time, I've become immune to them, because they genuinely have no bearing on my life.
I'm at a stage where I'm happy with everything that I've got in life, I'm happy that in terms of the blog, my photography and makeup skills have improved significantly over the course of year, particularly the photography. I decided at the end of last year that I'm not going to accept the annual winter struggle with light, and that I'm gonna do it differently - well, scrolling through my Instagram feed, it seems that this attitude has paid off, because the photography from 2016 to 2017 is totally different, to the point where I almost feel like a pro!
I've also learnt in 2017 that you really don't need to be in London to make something of your blog. Prior to this year, I'd always thought that if I stayed up here in Manchester, that nothing's gonna happen for me, in fact I'd even accepted it. But 2017 has shown me that people from outside of London and outside of the usual blogging cliques can gain recognition too, so long as you let the quality of your work do the talking. So 2018 will be all about putting Manchester, and the North, on the blogging map.
So my final post of the year combines photography and makeup, and if you've been following me for any length of time, you'll know that Graphic Liner really is my jam. There's just so much you can do with it, as there are so many different colours, various line styles and infinite design possibilities to work with - your eye area (and beyond) truly is your canvas.
Something I've been doing for a long time now, is using Liquid Lipsticks as eyeliner. I have them in pretty much every shade and tone of the rainbow - in fact, I wouldn't be surprised if Dulux approached me to feature in an ad for their paints! Obviously I can't turn up to work every day with turquoise lips, so a great way to get some good use out of your technicolour liquid lipstick collection is to use it as eyeliner.
The biggest problem I have, is that sometimes I just wanna whack on all of the colours, but unfortunately god has only blessed me with one face, so for this look, I opted for an ombre graphic liner, but not with just two colours. Oh no. THREE colours, because like all South Asians, I'm extra. In fact, people of colour invented being extra.
Of course, I had to pair up my ombre graphic liner with the obligatory bright AF lipstick and blinding highlight. How else will the mothership find me and take me back to my home planet? The struggles of being extra (terrestrial), you just gotta think of these things, you can never switch off.
Well that's pretty much that for 2017, we've got about 5 hours left at the time of writing, so I just wanna thank you all for the overwhelming support you've given me over the past 12 months and beyond. I've felt for a while that my little space on the Internet is less mainstream or alternative and more cult-like, although you can leave at any time, of course...
Those of you that 'get it', you're the real MVPS here, so thank you, enjoy the last remnants of 2017, and here's hoping 2018 is a fucking ball.
