Whisper it quietly, but I don't get all of my makeup in pastel coloured jiffy bags through the post. Sometimes, I actually venture outside into shops and buy things there too. If you're reading this in the year 2050, and Amazon have already taken over the world, a shop is like a place in the real world where you can go in, have a look around, try out the testers if they've not been nicked, and exchange your money for goods. Oh wait, you don't have money anymore?

So erm, let my imagination get the better of me there, but you catch my drift. I saw these Lottie London Eye Foils in Superdrug whilst I was just casually browsing, and was drawn in by the name, as it reminded me a bit of Stila's Glitter and Glow liquid eyeshadows.

Lottie have given you four shades to choose from, and because Superdrug had a 3 for 2 deal on, I picked up Fire and Denied, and even though Savage is a rose gold and I'm totally over rose gold, it was basically free so y not?

Essentially, the product is a liquid eyeshadow, but I wouldn't put it quite in the same league as Stila's Glitter and Glow. Stila's offering is much more opaque, and with just one swipe it really saturates the skin in that glittery goodness. Whereas the Lottie London Eye Foil Metallic Toppers are much more sheer. I've seen the swatches on all of the promotional material for these, and honestly, it looks like they must have used the whole tube to get stripes like that.

Of course you can wear them on their own for a wash of sheer colour on your lids, but for this look, I felt it worked a lot better when I applied 'Fire' over Lime Crime's 'Filter'. Filter is the blue cornflour shade from the Venus 2 palette, and as you can see, is a complete fucking dream on the eyelids.

If you're going to apply the Eye Foil Toppers over your eyeshadow, which is what it's really for anyway, I'd recommend you dab them on with the spongey applicator that comes attached to the lid, as opposed to swiping. I found that when I tried to swipe, it took the eyeshadow with it, which is no bueno.

To complete the look, I smoked out my lower lash line with black shadow, and dabbed on some 'Denied', which is more itty bitty glitter than 'Fire'. Whilst I already love 'Filter', I found that 'Fire' really did add extra... fire... to the look, and gave it a whole new dimension.

For the price they come at (£4.95), these little tubes are a ray of glittery delight. Sure, they're a little awkward to apply - remember to dab people - and their promotional material totally over-egged the intensity of the swatches, but when used as they're intended, they can really add a little sparkle to your look.

HAIR || Shadow Roots or Mermaid Roots? YOU DECIDE.

Reverse Ombre Mermaid Roots Blonde Ends South Asian Hair

Hello hello!

You may have seen my new hair on Twitter or Insta, so I figured it might be a good idea to talk about that on the blog too! Basically, this year, I was given a pretty amazing opportunity by Matrix Hair - a year long partnership!

They saw that I'm not one for sticking with the norm when it comes to hair, and I love colour, so they're giving me 6 treatments at a Matrix salon in 2018, and I've been fortunate enough to be paired up with the fantastic McCrory Hair on Oxford Road in Manchester and their stylist Jake Henry.

For my first visit, I decided to go for Opal hair, which is basically fully blonde hair, with slashes of light colour splashed across, giving it an iridescent effect. It was truly beautiful, and I absolutely loved it, but this time, I felt like trying something different again.

And this is where it gets confusing, because whilst the internet is a wonderful thing, there's also a lot of conflicting information and opinion, so trying to figure out what this is actually called is quite a task. I'm going with Shadow Roots for now, but by the time I finish typing this up, I may change my mind to Mermaid or Unicorn Roots, but let's see!

Anyway, I've always loved the idea of ombre, and I had one last year with pastel pink roots, blended out to blonde on the mid-lengths and ends. At the time I called this a reverse ombre, but after a bit of research I've found that because neither of those colours are my natural colour, deciding whether it's ombre or reverse ombre is tricky, I guess it's a case of whether the pink was classed as darker than the blonde, and I'm not so sure. Fuck it. It was pretty.

But back to my hair now, and for my second visit, I wanted to go with something called Shadow Roots. This is where the roots are either kept darker, or dyed darker, and the mid-lenghts and ends are dyed lighter. You might think "Well that just sounds like regrowth...", but the key difference here, is it's a much more polished look that doesn't give the appearance that you can't afford or can't be arsed to get your roots retouched.

So, Shadow Roots are where the roots are darker, and for my hair we decided that whilst my mid-lengths and ends would be kept blonde, my roots would be bleached and have 3 different colours from Matrix's Watercolour range applied to them. I went for pastel pink, a powdery blue and lilac. So these colours aren't obviously dark, and this is the point where I change my mind and go with Mermaid Roots. Yep, that's settled.

More great news for me is that McCrory Hair also use Olaplex, so getting my dark, South Asian hair down to blonde wouldn't be as problematic as it could be in terms of after care. So, with some bleaching, some toning and Olaplexing done, Jake worked his creative magic and applied the colour all over my roots like an artist applies paint to a canvas.

And what you see here, is the end result. Mermaid Roots. Or Shadow Roots. You decide!
