I recently had a facial at GlassFace Skin Clinic & Spa in Manchester’s Northern Quarter. Part of this facial included the extraction of blackheads and other gunk on the face. However, the facialist mentioned that she couldn’t see any pores on my nose, and that I had zero blackheads. She wanted to know how I managed to achieve this – the ultimate compliment!
So I thought I’d quickly write about what I’ve been using to get rid of those pesky blackheads, and make my nose look completely flawless.
Enter Cosrx BHA Blackhead Power Liquid
In today’s world, we’re accustomed to brands pumping out new lines, new products, new innovations constantly. Korean skincare is no different in that regard – it feels like a continual stream, or churn, of new releases, and it’s actually hard to keep up with. However, despite this, COSRX’s BHA Blackhead Power Liquid has really stood the test of time – and yes, I do fear waking up one day to find it’s been discontinued.
It was released over 10 years ago, well before the K Beauty hype train departed the station and it was still relatively inexpensive. There have been countless alternatives released in this time, yet I still continue to use it to this day – often imitated, never matched.
It’s a chemical exfoliant, and don’t fear, it’s a very gentle one. BHA means it’s a Beta Hydroxy Acid, which aims to get rid of blackheads and decongest the skin. As I’ve written in the past, it’s also fantastic for those (like me) who are prone to getting closed comedones, milia and acne. Although in truth, I’d say I’m no longer prone to them at all!
How I use COSRX’s BHA Blackhead Power Liquid
I apply COSRX’s BHA Blackhead Power Liquid to my nose and the congested areas of my skin right after I’ve cleansed in the evening – and it’s so gentle, that I really do mean every evening. It’s basically the first step in my nighttime skincare routine, but I never use it during the day.
Once I’ve applied it, I give it a few moments to sink in, then I continue on with rest of my nighttime skincare routine.
Caution: Sunscreen will need to be applied
As with all chemical exfoliants, which is what this is, it may increase your skin’s sensitivity to the sun. So to resolve that, make sure you apply a sufficient amount of sunscreen the following day. Across the internet, I see claims that 2 fingers worth of sunscreen is needed, but I use 3 instead, to also cover my neck area.
Can those with sensitive skin use Cosrx BHA Blackhead Power Liquid?
Yes. My husband has sensitive skin and his skin has been able to tolerate this chemical exfoliant. It doesn’t contain traditional salicylic acid, instead it has betaine salicylate which is much more gentle on the skin. It’s worked amazingly well on the husband’s nose too, and he no longer has a single blackhead on his nose either.
How much does Cosrx BHA Blackhead Power Liquid cost and where can I buy it from?
I buy mine from Stylevana where it usually costs around £9 to £10.
You can also buy it from Lookfantastic, but the cost is ridiculously expensive in my opinion – £24!
I’ll continue to stick with ordering mine from Stylevana.
